You wouldn't go out in the winter to collect the snow and then return the water in the spring, since Nature saves you the trip. Snow on the fields goes towards keeping the soil from flying away in the wind and then as an early water source before cultivation. Ploughing it off the yard for melting would be a lousy source of fresh water, since you drive all over the yard and it's coated with chemicals from tires, vehicle exhaust, and if you keep your pressure washer there, soap. Dry snow would produce maybe one twentieth of its volume in water, and wet snow, maybe one tenth, so you'd have to plough a lot of it just to get a little. The energy you'd use to collect and melt the snow would far outweigh the cost of water. The farm makes an excellent money sink and a reliable source of places where fingers can be lost.
